Ausbury, Meyer Each Toss 2-Hit Shutout for Chargers at IVCC

The Carl Sandburg College baseball team picked up a pair of two-hit shutouts Saturday, sweeping Illinois Valley 12-0 and 11-0 in an Arrowhead Conference doubleheader. Sandburg improved to 19-8 overall and 12-2 in the league.

Key Moment
The Chargers erupted for a 10-run second inning, with five of their six hits in the game coming during the frame. Sandburg sent 13 batters to the plate, with the biggest blow coming on a two-run homer from second baseman Greyson Durbin (Colona, Ill./United Township) to cap the scoring.

Sandburg Star of the Game
Sophomore righthander Travis Ausbury (Macomb, Ill./Macomb) allowed just two hits in a complete-game shutout. He struck out four and walked five on 99 pitches. The bottom eight spots in the order for the Eagles combined to go 0 for 13 against Ausbury.

Key Moments
The game was scoreless in the third when the Chargers broke through for five runs on five hits. An RBI single from Braedon Blackford (Peoria, Ill./Notre Dame) and run-scoring groundout from Cacey O’Brien (Moline, Ill./Moline) put the Chargers up 2-0 before Shane Coleman (Abingdon, Ill./Abingdon-Avon) and Womack swatted back-to-back homers for a 5-0 advantage.

Sandburg Star of the Game
Bryce Meyer (Bartonville, Ill./Limestone) fanned nine while allowed just two singles and a walk in the complete-game win. Meyer was economical as well, needing just 62 pitches (43 for strikes). The freshman left has whiffed 50 batters in 33 innings and sports a 0.85 ERA.
